We are now offering a store collection service, simply place your order online (minimum £5) and select store collection at the checkout. We will then pick your items and keep them for you, until you are ready to collect.

Cascade SMASH all-grain beer recipe

Cascade SMaSH (Single Malt and Single Hop) - all grain recipe

This is a simple recipe for producing an American-style pale ale, with basic ingredients. The finished beer will be very pale (7.9 EBC), fairly bitter (41.3 IBUs), be around 4.9% ABV and have a spicy, floral and grapefruit character. You can substitute the Cascade for any other hop with a similar Alpha, such as Centennial or Amarillo.

Ingredients for a 23 litre batch

5kg Maris Otter (EBC: 5)
100g Cascade (9.3% Alpha)
Irish Moss / Protofloc
Safale US-05 or Danstar American West Coast (BRY-97)


Add 25g of cascade as soon as the wort begins to boil
After 45 minutes add the Irish Moss / Protofloc, then add 15g of Cascade
Wait 5 mins, then add 20g Cascade
Wait another 5 mins then add another 20g Cascade
Wait 3 mins then add the last 20g of Cascade and allow to steep after the boil finishes.

Cool the wort, transfer to a fermentation vessel and pitch the yeast.
