Red Wine Kits

There is a vast range of red wine kits available, in virtually all grape styles you can think of, from Shiraz to Merlot, Chianti to Barolo.

As a general rule of thumb, the more you pay, the higher the quality of the wine you will produce. The kits at the upper end of the price range will produce wine to rival or even surpass many well-known brands, while the cheaper kits will produce a very drinkable table wine.

Premium kits contain high-quality grape juice from vineyards, while the budget kits often contain less concentrate and may require the addition of extra sugar, please see the product description for details.

While some of the kits take a month to make, others will be ready in just five or seven days. Whichever you make though, all of these kits will produce a wine that will benefit from being aged for at least two months, prior to drinking. If you have the patience, leaving a wine to mature for four months will dramatically improve the body and flavour.

Please note that some wine kits contain chitosan, a clearing agent (finings) which is derived from shellfish. The chitosan production process means that the wine is safe to drink for anyone with a shellfish allergy, however, it is not suitable for vegetarians or vegans. If you do not wish to use chitosan, you can either use Bentonite, which is a clay-based material, or you can place your wine somewhere cool and it will clear naturally, although this may take a few weeks.
