Campden powder, also known as Sodium Metabisulphite, is generally used in wine making, to kill the wild yeast on fruit, to prevent oxidation when siphoning and to help preserve wine. 1 teaspoon is equivalent to one campden tablet. Can also be made into a sterilising solution by mixing 1.5 teaspoons of powder with 500ml of water.

Campden Powder can also be used to neutralise chlorine and chloramine in tap water. Simply mix 1 heaped teaspoon into 20 litres of water to remove the chlorine.
